Subject: Bosch Boost Bypass and my S/C IP: Logged
Message: Hello Dakota Owners,
I own a 99 dakota with the 5.2l and it has a powerdyne supercharger on it. I have an intake tube with a place for the boost bypass.
My question is, how exactly is it hooked up? Where do i plug the vacum hose in? Does it go on the passenger side of the intake manifold? When i had my FMU installed they ran a line from the FMU to that port.
thanks for all your help!

Message: Yes, that is where you hook the vacuum line.

Message: thanks, i am guessing that i just use a y-piece to connect both the FMU and the boost bypass

Message: ok i hooked it up to the port on the passengerside of the intake manifold. It seems to stay open to much.
Is it normal not to close until around 2000rpm? I bought the bypass on ebay so i was wondering if that was normal or if the unit was defective.
thanks, i am still learning.

Message: is there another vacuum line that is better for the use of the bypass? Like the MAP sensor vacuum?

Message: I may be confused here a little. Is it a blowoff valve? I am not sure if the boost bypass is the same thing.
In either case, the vaccum you want should come from the manifold. If it is a blowoff valve, than it should not be open at all, until you have made boost and shut the throttle.

Message: Its a Bosch Boost Bypass, it is what was recomended from gsmotorsports, thats where i got the intake tubing.
Not sure what the difference in a BBV or A BOV, should i have gotten a BOV?
I think i might have found my answer, its a CBV
HERE!
Look like i might need a BOV?
thanks again

Message: I am pretty sure I have the bypass valve like you do. That web page has some good info on it.
I think for now while i'm tuning my truck I will leave the bypass in place. After the truck is tuned, I will decide if I need the bypass, or if the BOV will be better. I know right now based on cruising speeds, my truck spins the supercharger fast enough to create between 1 and 2 psi.

Message: see for me, at crusin speeds i can hear the bypass blowin.
Not sure yet what i am going to do. Do you have yours hooked to the vacuum line on the passenger side of the manifold?
What about your FMU?
Still havent had a chance to hook my bypass up to the map vacuum

Message: Good tip for s/c crowd. Reroute your MAP sensor to one of the ports lower on the manifold. It gets a better reading there when running a s/c instead of the little elbow it uses to connect right below the throttle blades.

Message: I have driven my truck a few days now, and I have the same problem that you have. The bypass is whistling unless I have my foot into it, making boost. As soon as I let off to cruise, the whistle starts again.
I have both the bypass and FMU running from the same place on the passenger side of the manifold.
I have done a little more research, and have come to this conclusion. You have to have a bypass on this style supercharger. It is very similar to the waste gate on a turbo. It remains open when the vehicle is just cruising. It will close when the vaccum drops below a preset point and will stay closed until the vaccum has returned to the system . With the hose located anywhere on the supercharger side of the throttle would produce undesirable opperation of the bypass valve.
Mine has a screw adjustment on it that I believe is used to adjust the closing point for the bypass. If yours has it, you may want to play with it a little so that it closes sooner.
Unfortunately, I do not have any type of instrumentation ( boost, or A/F guage) to tune mine, so I am leaving everything set the way it came from procharge.

Message: is there a differnt type of blow/off bypass that has more desirable results?
didn't get a chance to try the differnt vacuum point.
I think i will try moving the map vacuum to the passenger side vacuum port. Just wondering why/how this helps? What type of difference should i be looking for if i try it.

Message: My bypass will stay open way past 2k as long as my foot isn't into it. As soon as I go full throttle it closes. Of course I still don't make much boost till after about 2500 or so.
Does your bypass have any adjustment?
