 Subject: What rear end do I have?

This may be a stupid question, but I want to know how to tell what rear end I have. I have a 94 4x4 with the 5.2. It is an open differential, but I do not know what gears I am running. I am not knowledgeable about rear ends, so I figured I could start here. Does it say what it is on the case itself? Or would I have to use my VIN?

you have the corporate 8.25" rear end. i have the same one too. and most likely, you have 3.55 gears in it.....

Thank you for your input. I went to AutoZone to buy gaskets for my diff covers, they said there was two choices. However, AutoZone told me I had a frame mounted fuel filter too, I do not. So I am not the least bit suprised if there was no other option for my truck.

they did make more than one rear end for your truck. however, 9.25" was not one of them yet. the 9.25 replaced the 8.25 in later years i believe. anyhow, they made a smaller rearend for the v6 models. so if its a v8 4x4, its got the 8.25. very reliable rear end. i think its better than the newer 9.25 pos.

Holy sh!t man I thought that dodge started the 9 1/4 back in the early sixties.
It's also strange how they would put only this "P.O.S" behind the 426 hemi.
Or any purpose built stock drag car (eg '68 hemi dart,'66 dart 270 drag) or nascar.
Hmmm.

MANN: Actually it wasn't a 9 1/4" behind the Hemi cars, it was a 9 3/4" (Dana 60). I love the "know it alls" here. Geez.

what a retard. he thought the hemi's had a 9.25?
hahaha think before you act. and if you read up on this board, you will find alot of common problems with the 9.25's. especially the LSD's.

I must be one of the few then, I've never had a problem with the 9 1/4" in my '01. It also has the limited slip. I change the oil occasionally, run synthetic and have 50K miles on it.

50k isnt alot. 350k, thats alot. and not everyone has problems with it. there is just alot of problems with them. the LSD's didnt hold up well from what i hear.
