In the never ending search for an exhaust systme that actually does something positive for a 4.7L I did a little research into Magnaflow (went to the web site). Anyone had any experience with these systems on a 4.7L?

No experience on the 4.7 but they kick ass on my 5.2. Expect it to sound like stock but louder. They do not resonate like flowmasters do. Good luck

I have a Magnaflow with a 3inch pipe out the side and a 4inch tip. Sounds great, but don't know any actual results. Never dyno'd before I put it on.

Go with a 2 chamber Flowmaster! I've gotten nothing but praise,,, and more often than not I'm told it's the best sounding V8 (4.7) they've heard. Granted, it's a little bit louder than a magnaflow,,but I've seen a few rot-out(magnaflows). I've got a catback w/ duals on my truck/ '01 4.7 CC 3.55 auto. Only mod so far, but I'm run'n 15.5's in the 1/4, and have less than 15% driveline power loss according to the dyno.
I've heard alot of people say that there will be a loss of power if the exhaust is the only upgrade you make.,,,but I apparently haven't experienced it. ,,,,And the intake work is coming soon,,, and I'll be posting my dyno before and after.

ZenDak, what product # is the Flowmaster system you are running? I've been looking for a good system and can't seem to find one.

Off the top of my head I can't recall. Just ask for the 2 chamber street muffler,,,I don't think there are any variations on it.
I had a little shop I know of Down in SanAntonio put it on. Cost like $250 all together for the muffler, tips (chrome, slant cut), and labor. It comes right off the last Cat. Whatever you do,,,,don't dump it out of the muffler straight down.... It will sound hideous,,. Any muffler dumped straight down on a 4.7 will sound painful. Go with a single or dual exit. I went w/ duals,,,didn't notice a drop in power (maybe even an increase), and I perfer the look of it.

I've had Flowmasters and currently have a Magnaflow. The Magnaflow is much better in my opinion. It sounds really good. It is loud enough that you can hear it, but it is not annoying. The Flowmaster got on my nerves really quick. Too loud for everyday driving. Resonates pretty bad, as well. The Magnaflow sounds really sweet, and I have headers, as well. Still not too loud. There's my opinion, hope it helps.

I have the Flowmaster Force II cat back system on my 01 4.7, part# 17278. At idle it has a low rumble and highway speeds it is not annoying at all. When you step on it, you know it is there and so does everyone else. The sound is awesome and with an aftermarket intake, it gets even better. Don't know anything about the Magnaflow, never used it but Flowmaster has always been good to me. In my experience, the resonation everyone else talks about is usually from using the incorrect pipe size and/or muffler type for the application with incorrect placement of the muffler if not a catback system, which model chosen and how it is set-up does make a difference. Theres my 2 cents for what it is worth with inflation.

I have a single/dual magnaflow 2.5" to 3.5" tips. I dunno if I gained or lossed hp since it was a custom job, but it sounds sweet and doesn't resonate as much in the cab as flowmasters

I have a MagnaFlow on my 4.7 CC. Its a custom system from a local shop. I noticed that my truck was a little punchier with the exhaust. And I'm really happy with the sound. It has a low mellow rumble not as loud as the flowmasters but just right.

I paid about $200 for my Flowmaster catback but I am able to get alotta mods at dealer cost through my Uncles' Auto Repair Shop(Unfortunately no deep discounts as no volume purchases like the group buys are sometimes able to get). You should expect to pay around $250 for the kit and plus another $50-$100 for install. I installed it myself and saved some $$ but I used my Uncles' Repair Shop lift and air tools, probably not to easy to do in your driveway on ramps:( Oh, and I did notice some changes after installing the exhaust: my foot has gotten much heavier, my smile is permanent, everyone stares, Butt Dyno says I gained some low end power and gas mileage was reduced a couple mpg but less when foot is lighter.

Chris, nobody on this site seems to like Vortex very much, but I've got a 5.2L Dak with a Single-Dual Vortex Cherry Bomb, 2.5 pipes and 3 tips. It sounds amazing in my opinion. Its very very deep, and has a great rumble. Compared to my buddies flowmaster w/ headers (also on a 5.2 dak) I think mind sounds much meaner, deeper, and all around better. In my opinion, it has the best sound of any truck or SUV that I have heard yet. And I really am being unbiased. Give it a look if youre willing.

I have the Magnaflow 2.5" single in / dual out. Sounds good. Have no idea what the gains were. I think the Part Number is 12158 (aluminized -- but u can get the SS variety). I had a local shop in W. PA put the muffler in, use one of the stock tailpipes, and add a pipe beside the stock one for about $110 -- all aluminized. If you wanted something that would outlast your truck, go with stainless, but expect to pay 2.5 to 3.0 times more. With mine, I wasn't sure if I was gonna like it, or take it off, so I went with aluminized. Hope this helps.
