Subject: iol synthetic or regular????
IP: Logged

Message:
I just changed the oil in my truck and I used mobil 1 synthetic. Then I had someone tell me you shouldn't use synthetic oil if it has never had it in it before. Iam sure this has been discussed 1000 times but what do you think? The truck has about 85000 miles on it

thanks

From what I have experienced you need to kind of ease it into the motor otherwise you'll get some minor leaks and whatnot. I changed to mobil 1 at 95000 and have had zero problems. It starts so much easier and oil pressure stays equalized better. I broke mine in, from regular to blend to synthetic

Mobil 1 is compatible with all conventional motor oils.
"...you shouldn't use synthetic oil if it has never had it in it before" is a myth. So is "once you switch to synthetic, you can't go back to conventional oils."
It lubes better, coats metal better and has a higher shear strength.
Your engine will run happy and last longer.
Use it. Good stuff.

when I said ease it into it, I mean upgrade from conventional to syn blend to full synthetic. Run the blend for and oil change then go to the full synthetic after that. Otherwise I've heard some have problems with leaky valve cover gaskets and whatnot. It wont hurt anything by any means but, you'll smell burnt oil and get worried when there is no reason to be
