Silver - sounds like idle air control (IAC) in the TB may be sticking - remove TB to clean, be careful not to twist the plunger.

It sounds like the 4.7L often has the same problems as my '96 5.2L. I experience the same erratic idle problem: sometimes the engine will be at a normal idle and then independently rev up to around 1200rpm. Sometimes it dies when I shift from reverse to drive or when I let off the accelerator at a stop. Other times it doesn't start without pumping the accelerator and once it does start it dies if I let off the accelerator. This problem is temporarily resolved by cleaning the IAC and TB every few months. It also gets lousy fuel milage (14mpg at best) and seems to have less power than when I bought it in '01.
Every time I check the trouble codes, I get a 12 which Chilton says is a power disconnect to computer. I've also recently been getting a cylinder misfire code.
Has anyone been able to resolve similar problems?

I have the same issue with my 2000 Dakota Quad. When it first started, prior to breaking, the idle accelerates briefly. Now the idle is consistently 300-600 rpm above normal. Problem is that it doesn't alway high rev at idle. It does always rev prior to breaking.
