Message: Hi all,
Well... The truck just turned 50,000 and I am already on my second set of front brakes. The dealer replaced the calipers, pads and roters at 7,000 under warranty bec. the calipers stuck and ruined all the components (I had to fight tooth and nail for that replacement too!)
The problem has resurfaced so I removed the brakes, cleaned and lubed the sliders, and the area that the pads "slide" on. The problem still exists.
Does any one know of an upgrade for the factory calipers? Or perhaps a better solution? I know the calipers need to be replaced. I just don't want to use the stock ones again.
Thanks for your time!

Message: Sounds like you may have a more serious problem with the brake master cylinder. I can see one caliper going bad, but 2 sets? ...4 calipers!? Are they visibly or obviously fukked up?
I'm on a third set of rotors myself , and I know the calipers are crap in general, but I think it would be wise to consider having the other system components checked and replaced.

Message: Thanks for the reply John. I never thought of the master cylinder. I did not realize it had any affect on the "return" of the piston when you take your foot off the brake.
There is nothing visibly wrong with the calipers they just drag after I use the brakes a couple of times. Originally I thought they were hanging up because of brake dust, rust and grime ect. But they still do it after cleaning and lubrication. I just assumed they were bad calipers.
This is a standard tranny so I use the breaks even less than most too...

Message: Make sure your rear brakes are adjusted correctly. Do it manually. DOn't trust the automatic adjusters because they just don't work. If your rears are a little loose more braking load will go to your already overloaded fronts and cause them to warp. It won't cause seized calipers, but I don't get teh impression that that is your current problem.

Message: it probably is the calipers that are giving you the problem. I recently replaced the calipers on my 99 dak my dads 01 dak and am currently replacing them on my mothers 02 dak. the calipers on small trucks have plastic pistons which are very prone to ware and tare. some larger trucks such as ram can get replacements with steel pistons I heard but I don't own one.
