Message: You may try to do a search. From what I have read on these many threads is that some years dakotas have the filter inside the gas tank...as part of the fuel pump. While other years I hear it is on the driver side frame rail. Good luck. Post some of your symptoms and the wise people that use this forum can tell you some other problems that may be causing any difficulties for your truck.

Message: I have a 94 with a 318, 4x4. My filter was on top of my tank built in to the sending unit. The fuel filter and sending unit and pump is one unit. My truck died on the way to work, no fuel. I had to tear the bed off and replace the whole unit... Sucks, but I am confident that I will not have to mess with it for a while.

Message: I am fairly certain it is integrated in the tank with the pump. On the earlier trucks it was located inside the drivers side frame rail.

Message: On my 92 there is a filter on the drivers side just behind the door or under it approx and its anchored to the innerside of the frame. My chiltons says its in the fuel tank with the pump so perhaps there are 2 on some years, both in and out of tank? I've not looked in the tank yet, just bought the truck a few months ago.
