Message: I have heard from lots of past posts that this takes place because the pcm is seeing a need to have full power...so the pcm shuts out the air conditioner.

Message: what he^ said but, it could also be the high pressure switch it the system is slightly overcharged. mine doesn't cut out at all. ('00 QC 3.9 w/std trans) i say this since it seems you recently had some work done on it.

Message: More likely the low pressure switch cutting it off due to an undercharge of refrigerant. When you go WOT, the compressor is really pumping away and the suction side is drawing down, causing the low pres switch to cut the compressor out. When you go faster and the engine is turning more RPM's your pulling more air over your condenser so the high side should be ok.

Message: PS: You can have a slight undercharge of refrigerant and the A/C will still work to a certain extent at normal driving conditions. Its when you floor it that this could happen with an undercharge.

Message: this is the way the system is going to work do you want your compressor to be locked in at 6500rpms no it is a safe gard for the compressor.
The way it works is when the pcm see's wot it will un lock the compressor clutch so one it wont come apart and two you can have max power

Message: Quote from my Factory Service Manual:
"A/C compressor clutch engagement is controlled by several components: the A/C-heater control, A/C pressure transducer, A/C compressor clutch relay, evaporator temperature sensor and the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM may delay compressor clutch engagement for up to thirty seconds."
