Message: I put those Bosch platnum in my 5.2 and they ran like crap.So I put Champions in it and it runs great..Everyone likes their own style plug though. So run the Autolite or the Champion...I find that spending a butt load of money on a plug isn't always best..One of those cases that you don't always get what you pay for..

Message: It varies and depends on your setup. I ran bosch platinums and my truck runs great, but I know they do take more voltage to fire. You could spend $9 bucks each on those E3 plugs but it probably wont run any better than some regular autolite plugs. I hear that the autolite 3923's burn up pretty easy after 10-15K also

Message:
I just received my new set of E3 plugs and the Addco a.sway bars.
I haven`t installed them yet.
The prob w/ the autolites 3923 is that they loose performance pretty fast.
The other point is that the 3923 is more indicated for modified engines that are more prone to pre detonation.
If you don`t have mods or pre detonation, never mind them.
What they really do, is kind of making the ignition a little shy, once they don`t go as deep in the combustion chamber as the originals.
I`m using 3923 for the last 50k miles, and am going back to original temperature E3 plugs for a test.

Message: Personally, I just bought a set of Champion Iridium pluts for my 1996 5.2L Magnum. They are very expensive. Mine were over $10 apiece. I noticed a BIG difference between them and the Bosch Platinums +2's. Bosch is good for nothing. Champion and some other brands are Dodge proven.

Message: Platninums don't require more voltage. Fact is, they have very low resistance, 5 or 6 thousands allowing easy arc over causing week spark. Best resister plugs I know of are actually the champions. Regular champs have 75,000 ohms resistance. This holds the spark back longer allowing voltage to build up much better so at arc over you have a very good spark . Myself, I use champion truck plugs. They have a lomg life and still more resistance. 85,000 ohms so better spark yet. Holding back the arc over is exactly what our engines need. Every little bit helps in controling spark knock. There is so much hype about plugs it gets funny. Most guys don't consider there removing worn out plugs and in reality any new plug is going to make it run better. What I said here is not personal opinion except that there my choice. It is fact period.

Message: Yeap, those +4's will cause problems; Atleast in my experience they do. My Jeep Gr Cherokee 5.2L wouldn't run worth a dang after I put Bosch Platinum +4's in it. Knocking, surging, etc. Changed them up with the stock plugs and it smoothed right out.
OBIO3, I took your advice and switched over to Champion Truck plugs. I am very impressed with them! My Dak idles smoother and is a bit more responsive than when I had the standard Champions. I think they were just what the doctor had ordered. Thanks for the advice and your spark plug knowledge.

Message: jpkomm......Thank you for the suport here. I believe your the first guy who actually took me as having some actual fact information to pass on. You'll get a ton of service out of the champion truck plugs. One thing I never mentioned. ALL PLUGS MISSFIRE. Even new but new ones just miss less. This is the real reason you feel a bit more power and maybe a slight increase in fuel mileage. When you take an engine turning 2200 RPM on the freeway and multiply that by the amount of pistons you have there is no way you can hear or feel a miss that is playing musical chairs. new plugs fire about 99% of the time. Depending on age average old plugs fire about 96% give or take 1 or 2. Easy to see why power and fuel raises a bit. also tells you why the serious racer changes plugs at the track and removes them for next time out. 3 or 4 races on a set of plugs and they start all over with new ones. These will also be differant plugs then you use for daily driving so there no longer of any use to you. I know there are those that will say there's not enough differance to spend the bucks but if your really there to win and you get beat by a couple of feet, what do you supose the outcome would have been had you switched to new plugs at the track.
Most people run plugs now days 50,000 miles. Guys who are more paticular well change them around 30,000 and that's a good number but, In reality plugs have enough wear at 10,000 that they could be changed to keep the engine running at its peak. On the other hand, your not going to notice this differance unless your a very consistant driver on the track and do not use differant plugs to race with.Anyway guys. Stop listening to all the hype your hearing and carefully seperate whats real and what's hog wash. One more thing. Anybody getting static in there truck radio as it's running. Listen for it IF your running autolites. this is interesting. They have the dencest metal of all plugs there by making there metal the hardest. For this reason they retain more heat then all others within themselfs and there resistors go away the easiest. Believe it or not > Your choice.

Message: toolfan,
I had replaced my stock champions with autolite 3923's and it got rid of almost all of my knocking problems. It still knocks when I go up this one really long steep hill when the tranny holds it in O/D, but when I lock it out it has no pinging at all. Did you swap them out for(stock replacement) 5224's or the colder 5223's?

Message: I have a 1999 5.2 as well; the Champion Truck Plugs work great in it.
You should only have to ask for Champion Truck plugs and they'll be able to find them. They might bring out others thinking that's what you are talking about though. The Truck Plugs come in a black box and the insulator is also black with gold lettering.
I broke one of them when I was checking the gap's on them a few weeks ago. I had to go down and buy a new one. It took the person at AutoZone two tries before she brought out the Truck Plugs. She had no idea what I was talking about.

Message: novaDAK they were the 5224s and worked well but they were old. i agree with OBIO3 that all plugs miss fire and i can tell the truck runs much smoother with the new autolites in there. unless you get expensive plugs i would just replace them every year or ever 15-20k miles.
novaDAK your truck knocks? what engine do you have, how many miles?

Message: I have 68k on my 5.2, and it pinged very bad a lot of the time, but after switching to the 3923's, it got rid of almost all of it. I know in my area we sometimes get cheap gas, but I know it was also the truck. Now, it only pings sometimes when going up a long steep hill in o/d.

Message: NovaDak,
If you haven't done anything like this yet...
www.auto-rx.com and Sea Foam are your friends!
I've run the Auto-RX through with the oil and noticed most of the pinging to clear up within ten miles and then I ran Sea Foam through the throttle body pouring it in very slowly and that cleared up the rest of the pinging. The Sea Foam made the truck ping a lot more for the first twenty miles or so but that cleared up and my truck drives and feels completely different now. I bought it used with 72k miles on it, I can only imagine that it drives like it is brand new right now.
My 5.2 has 96k miles on it now. I've still got 400 miles left of the cleaning phase for the Auto-RX though. I might see even more benefits.
My engine was a mess when I got it. The plenum gasket was blown out in four places, I had downshift practically any time I wanted to accelerate or else it would ping. After the results with the engine cleaners, I guess the previous owner must've rarely ever changed the oil in it. The bottom of the old intake manifold was coated in a thick layer of sludge when I replaced it with a Hughes Stage One intake manifold.
