Subject: Engine light on why?? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, I know this is a dumb question, but I am a single mom who had a mechanic type for almost 18years. The engine light in my 2000 Dakota came on yesterday. The oil, transmission fluid and coolant are fine I checked them. The power steering fluid is a littlelow (will fix that ASAP) are there other simple and cheap things that could light this up? I really can't afford a major repair and hope to avoid a diagnostic bill.
Thanks!

Message: Just had that problem myself. You'll need the malfuntion codes from your truck's computer to tell where the problem is. AutoZone auto parts stores ( if you live out west ) will do that for you for free.

Message: Check gas cap, did you recently fill gas? Maybe it isn't on tight. Also, I have heard of lights going on for burnt out headlights in other vehicles...not sure if the Dakota's computer is the same. Check gas cap and all lights first.
