Subject: 45rfe loosing 1st and O/D IP: Logged
Message: hey all. I've poked around on the boards here and havent found an answer to this problem. Couple posts, but they end up being hijacked by the "Not shifting from 1st under WOT" problem.
I have a 2001 QC (45rfe) and 3 days ago i started having trouble with the tranny. Everything shifts normally until the transmition reaches operating temperature. At that point, doesnt matter if im driving or stopped in drive, i lose overdrive ( it will downshift HARD to 3rd if its in O/D ) and it will not downshift on its own at ALL ( manual shifting will get it to 2nd gear, never will fall into 1st ) I also get a trouble code of 0700.
Letting the truck sit for a few hours and cool off, it will shift normally again until it warms up.
Anyone have a simular experiance? I called to the local tran shop and described my problem, was instantly told it would have to be a rebuild, that he's seen this exact problem a few times. This doesnt make sense to me, sounds more like a sensor flipping out when its told the tranny is warmed up.
Thanks,
Josh

If so what oil was used?
You will most likely need to take it to a dealer to see if there are any codes in it.

Message: Have you checked your tranny fluid to make sure it's at the correct level? Low tranny fluid will cause you to throw this code. So will faulty speed sensors. Have you cycled your ignition key 'on' 3 times so that the PCM runs the diagnostic and displays any codes in your odometer? Also, is the MIL always illuminated or only after you reach operating temp? If you have a tranny DTC with the MIL lit, you're going to be in 'limp home' mode and your tranny isn't going to operate normally. You might take it to a place like AutoZone and see if they can connect up and retrieve any additional information. Good luck!

Message: i guess the line about the code 0700 up there was stuck too far out of the way to be seen :)
Autozone says its a transmition solenoid(sp?) malfunction, and autozone doesnt carry the solenoid(sp?)

Message: P0700 is a code generated by the TCM to tell the PCM to illuminate the MIL. All it means is there is a code stored in the TCM. IF the trans will not downshift and you lose O/D, then the trans is stuck in limp mode, thats why the manual downshift is so hard. You need access to a DRBIII or scanner of some sort with the software to read a TCM. just my .02.

Message: Same thing- code happened to me. (2000 4.7 45rfe) code po0700. The computer will store another code, take it to autozone, etc. to have it read. Your transmission is in "limp home mode". No 1st or overdrive, and the transmission jacks up the fluid pressure which is why it shifts so hard. When I had mine read the computer shot out an "output speed sensor" code. (forgot the number) 40 dollars at the dealer for the sensor, 2 minutes to install it myself. Have the codes read! The tranny guy's just looking to rip you off.

Message: i dont know for sure. Autozone's tester shows " 'Shift Solenoid A' Malfunction" How would i go about finding out if that is the same as rockauto's 'transmition solenoid' ? The price difference from when i asked the stealership on their list price for 'shift solenoid a' was $167, and rockauto's price is around $67

Message: I know that this an older post but I'm having the same problem with my 99 grand chereokee. 0700 popping up lost 2 and od. I know that I need to get hooked up to a computer but money is a little tight. Been trying to see if I can test the speed sensors and the trans solinoid but no luck. Does any buddy have the specs are the ranges that these should be testing out on if they can be tested at all?
