Message: I have a 2001 Dakota crew cab, 4.7 motor. Love it, its been great. Except gas mileage. My wife drives it and she is a little old lady school teacher (OK she'd punch me out if she heard me call her old), but she does putter around. No hard acceleration at all. She gets 13 mpg in the city, 16 on the highway. That's not good. It runs great, change oil regularly, tire air pressure at 40 lbs and air cleaner is OK. Any ideas?

Message: If that is a 2 wheel drive, I think you have some issues. If 4 wheel drive, don't complain

Message: I have a 2000 4X4 Quad cab with the same motor. The absolute worst on-road mileage I've ever gotten was 14.1 mpg. That was summertime, part-time air conditioning use, and me doing my John Force impersonation at every single stop light. Normally driving consistently gives me right around 16 mpg.

Message: Get rid of the stock exhaust, and put a magnaflow in there to start. People like Flowmaster too, but if you want a quiet cab, go with the first. While you are in there, have them run the pipe straight out the back. The straighter the pipe coming out, the better. Total for that is around $180, with a stainless tip for looks. Jump on a K&N FIPK Air Intake kit. Ebay is the cheapest (around $262 delivered). These two, alone, will improve your torque and mpg. If you want a step further, try SuperChips (also on ebay $289 delivered) with the 87 option. Basically same gas your using now with better performance.
