What are the advantages of a catback system? What makes them seem so appealing to alot of owners?

Looks, nothing more. Single pipe alone will get the performance you're looking for

Appealing?

'Sounds Faster, doesn't it'

Still waiting on the first dyno, same conditions, and that mod as the only chnage, to show a gain on a 4,7.

Catback=expensive sound

Yea I agree. My set-up was expensive and I knew ahead of time because of the wealth of information here that I wasn't going to get much, if any, performance. Just wanted my truck to sound better than stock and different than the millions of flowmasters I am surrounded with. My Rancho lift was a very expensive 3" of height, guess people can spend their money the way they want.

Now when you say that it makes them sound mean, do you mean loud or more performance sound? I am looking to get my 5.2 to sound like pure power! I don't want my truck to sound like all these chevy's and fords around hear with cherry bombs and that just sound like ass! I have a 97 5.2L reg cab sport with smaller wider tires. It looks very aggressive and more appealing to me than the lifted trucks here in town! So I want umph

I think exhaust sound is mostly personal preference, But I like the sound of my gibson catback on my 98 5.2. not real load, but sounds healthy. Have had alot of compliments.
