Subject: 45RFE to TKO-500 - PCM question
IP: Logged

Message:
I've done a lot of searching, but I can't seem to find any solid info on this issue.

I'm ready to replace my sponge-O-matic trans with a Tremec TKO-500 5-speed, and i'm trying to find out if my stock PCM will need programming or replacement.

If anyone has done a auto-to-manual swap (or has knowledge of doing it), couldja fill me in, please?

I'd be real disappointed to go through this very exspensive mod and then not be able to drive it right away.

All advice is appreciated.

If you have your heart set on this then by all means go ahead, but just in case you didn't know there are two options that will really firm up the shifts on your 45rfe for much less:
1)pull the torque management wire from the pcm, do a search you will find the instructions (free)
2)superchips programmer, does the same thing as above, removes torque management and recalibrates pcm for added power, (about $350-400)

An educated guess would be that you need a manual trans version of the PCM. I don't see how your auto-PCM would work without communication with your TCM. I guess you could leave the TCM connected but it's just going to be complaining constantly about the lack of proper sensor readings.
