Message: If the GenI's have the older LA mounts, couldn't you just cut them off a junk frame and weld them into the Gen III? Or, are the frames totally different. I used to do this on older Mopars where the location was the same for A and B blocks but the mounts were different. They were welded in exactly the same locations.

Message: Look, Shelby's own solution makes the most sense. He directed that a crossmember be welded in a few inches forward of the one already there. Then standard D100 truck mounts were used in conjunction with the standard 318 mounts. The bolt-in crossmember is a little over $300. It could be duplicated with any decent section of angle iron, etc.

Like I said, I don't know if it works on truck, but it worked great on cars. You could probably get them for less than $10 especially if you cut them off yourself. I found out by going to the junkyard and making some comparisons and measurements. They were all 60's and 70's cars, but pulled quite a few sixes and A blocks and installed B blocks by cutting mounts off and welding in the correct ones. It doesn't cost anything to check it out.

Message: well if his tranny is meant for 175 hp what will happen when he puts it up to 140 hp, it will be too underpowered for the tranny and it wont hold 5th worth a damn, because most engine/trannys the OD or 5th gear is not made for accel or even going up large hills, it will prolly be able to hold 5th up a hill as it is right now, but if he puts a smaller engine to it he will prolly be using 4th for slight accel and hills
i always wondered why people want to go backwards in power
AND the 80s 318s got HORSESH!T for fuel economy, every old 318 ive ever had got 10, at the best

Message: The torque figures for the Magnum V6 and the mid-80's 318 are closer than you think. It's not peak HP that pulls the OD. Approx 230 ft/lbs at 3200 rpm for the V6, 245ft/lbs give-or-take in the 1600-2000rpm range for the mid-80's 318. All the 318 needs is a decent induction and exhaust to be knockin' on 300 ft/lbs.

Message:
the other day i bought a 1997 standard cab, 2 wheel drive, v6, 5 speed dakota for 400 bucks. The engine is on its last leg. I want to put a v8 in it b/c i have a 1985 carb 318 and 904 sitting in my garage. What are my options for the swap, ie will the engine bolt right up to the motor mounts and manual trans or will i have to use the automatic, also i have all the motor mounts from a 1995 318 dakota that i did an engine swap on but i noticed on the 85 block there isnt the 3 bolt holes on the side where the 95 318 mounted to its motor mounts. Any help and info would be great. I only have 700 to spend and i will be doing all the work my self.
that is the original post if hehas no more than 700 dollars to spend its a carbed motor he will need a set of stock manifolds or headers then will need to fab a exaust then will need gages his buget is getting smaller by the minit now if he was going to modify the engine he will end up with ruffly 300 or so to put twards parts maybe a manifold is all he can get or a cam setup

Message: thats what i would do. easiest way to get that truck on the road. and for a 2 wheel drive daily driver, the 3.9 has plenty of power for daily use. and with todays gas prices, would you really want to pay for the mileage of a v8 when you dont have to?
