I tow with my 02 w/4.7 auto with no problems.
I change my trans oil at 50K and use only Mopar ATF+4. If you don't have the factory towing package they add an trans oil cooler (a must)
In the hills keep it out of over-drive.
I've towed my 4300 lb Charger to Bowling Green Ky. and back from Central Illinois and got around 13 MPG.

i would do what he said. but for your reference, i towed my friends camaro with my 93 5.2L a/t 4x4 like it wasnt even there. on a trailer of course. dakotas have a really good towing capacity. and as said before, i highly recomend a external tranny cooler. it reduces heat in the tranny alot. keep an eye on your engine heat on those hills too just to keep it safe.

You should be fine - but many of us with the 45RFE tow with OD on with no problems. Only seems to shift into OD in low load situations, like towing downhill.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

My brother borrowed my 04 4.7 QC AWD with towing
package to tow a track car from Arkanasas to
Florida and back. They had three guys, tools,
spare parts, spare tires and wheels, a 2500 pound
track car and a heavy trailer in tow and got 15
mpg. The trip was over 2000 miles round trip.
The only stops they made in either direction were
for gas and food. They made the trip with over
drive on and disabled trailer brakes. The only
issue was accelerated brake pad wear due to the
trailer brake issues.

I have the towing pkg and pulled fertilizer buggies with mine that weighed from 9,550 to 9,990#'s and there werent any real problems, however it did seem to grunt a little up the hills.

I have a 02 4.7 QC Sport with tow pkg. Should that be ok to pull a 2 horse? The style I'm looking at is a pull behind with a gross weight of 7000 lbs.
