 Subject: Strange pinging like sound from my 4.7??

Ok, here's one that I haven't come across before in my 20+ years of working on cars.....
My '00 4.7L seems to have developed a "ping". I originally thought it was actual pinging due to bad gas or plugs, but once I started paying more attention to it I noticed that it seems to also do it when I'm coasting sometimes. I'm telling you it sounds EXACTLY like engine pinging, but it can't be that due to it happaning with a closed throttle. Engine temp is fine. I'm wondering if it is tranny related because it doesn't do it at all in park or neutral. Any one else experience this?
