Message: Does it work only in high? If so, you have a bad blower motor resistor.

Message: Had to remove my fan assembly today to get some leaves out, and decided to take a look at this resistor thingy I keep reading about.
What a cheap-@ss way to do things: varying lengths of resistor tracks on a circuit board. Wondering why D-C put it where they did, but suspecting it was to keep it cool, I ran the fan while checking the heat level of the board. In every fan speed position except OFF, that little board got too hot to touch after about 10 seconds - even in the high speed position.
That's why it's in the airstream: to keep it from burning up.
And that's why this little board keeps burning up, as many of us are finding out, because the air stream is sometimes not up to the task.
