Subject: Air conditioner for 1991 V-8 IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 91 Dakota 4x4 fully loaded regular cAB LONGBOX. The a/c was not working when I purchased it, the clutch was gone. Well I decide to convert it to 134a. I changed the compressor, dryer, exspansion valve and now I can not get the clutch to kick in. Even if I bypass the low pressure cycle switch. I now have the dash torn apart and I am officaly losing my mind. Any suggestions would be great. Daniel

Message: Thank you for the reply, yes I did pull a 28" vacume and tested for leaks. I then got one can of 134a refrigerant in but I can not get more than that due to the compressor not kicking in.

Message: Fuse/relay? disconnect the plug at the compressor, jump in a hot wire from your battery and see if it engages. Deff. an electrical problem unless you have a bad compressor.

Message: yea if there is 12v at the coil it still could be bad jump one wire to + and one to - and the coil should pull clutch in. If it does not you have a bad coil. my old cop car had a bad wire or switch and only showed 9.5 volts at coil. not enough to work correctly, I put a relay in directly to battery.
