Message: The dealer ordered me one 3 weeks ago and recieved a greased, previously mounted, 94-95 5.9 that had a cracked housing. Now I'm on back order.
I was thinking about sending my motor specs to Jet Chip and have my 5.2 MP ECM flashed. Of course I would have to send them the one I have.
But they didn't say weather they could or not. Any other alternatives besides a $1600 FAST system? Know anybody selling.
I'm a realtor and I have looked for nothing more than driving this around with my magnets on the side.

Message: Check the April and June issues of Petersen's 4Wheel Off Road mag. They had similar problems hopping up a 360... if the computer is pre-1996 (obd-1) then modifications are difficult, 1996 and newer allows re-flashing (reprogramming of the computer). I do not have a subscription, bought them off the shelf... cannot find the articles online either to give you a link (but they have a back issue online option). When they were finally done, after lots of frustration, they warned the modern Hemis' to look out!

we have roughly the same set-ups, i put my engine in a few weeks ago. would sputter, and backfire, a couple misfire codes.. fuel sync fixed it... no low end power is something im currently chasing. i cant spin tires either. on the top end it hauls ass.... lower rpms its pathetic.

Message: Pete
We set the sync to zero it was way off at first but I am still fiting the sputter, and backfire, but no codes. I've been fighting it for 2 weeks now.
What injectors are you using. A lot of guys around me give up and throw a carb on theirs and eliminate the problem.
I just don't want to do it.
Bob is that a 2005 issue?

Message: gen1,
Got my 94-95 MP 5.9 ECM today and installed it soon as I got home. I cannot believe there is thatmuch of a differance in the calibrations to the 5.2. She can actually make it to the gas station, something I haven't missed.
I'm getting it back on the DRB this weekend to check the fuel sync and make sure my lean problem is better. Still kind of lacking the low end torque but I only have about 10 miles on the ECM and I know from the last time I bought a new computer it took a little while to program to my driving habits. I got some cheezy vacuum line kit from Auto Zone and the brake booster hose collapses, so there's a good chance a may have a vacuum issue.
Any particular adjustments you suggest we do while we have the DRB on it?
What do you think about the adjustable MAP module?
WOT is all it needs to learn

Message: Ummm, I don't think those OBDI pcm's learn anything, just the OBDII's. And, they're pretty much locked in, so adjustments aren't possible (OBDI). The MP unit has a pretty aggressive ignition and fuel curve, so you should have a good match there. Everything about your setup screams top-ender, so you may want to get a higher stall (2,200-2,400 rpm) converter if auto tranny, and/or gears (3.90's, but start with the converter) to compensate for the low-end softness, but be sure the vacuum issues are resolved first, and that fuel synch is on the mark. That may solve the low rpm power issues well enough.

Message: Appeciate the tips gen1. I have a B&M 2800 converter. But, I will pay close attention to the vacuum, seems to be a simple but crucial problem.
I went to a friends and he had the "4Wheel off road" article "Mopower". Looks like they were working on a 94 Ram and the project lasted 360 days. What a coincedence. They went through all the lean, backfiring, over heating and no power problem a lot of people have complained about. They eliminated the lean and overheating with 24# Holley Avenger injectors. I've never heard of anyone using these.
And for all you guys needing the valve adjustment order for your new rollers here ya go:
Magnum V8 Firing order
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
With #1 cylinder at TDC
Exhaust: 1,3,4,8
Intake: 1,2,5,7
Turn Crank 360 degrees and bring up #6 cylinder
Exhaust: 2,5,6,7
Intake: 3,4,6,8
If I am wrong with any of this please correct me. I hate to see someone go through this and my info is incorrect.

Message: Got a problem that will not go away. I have about 14 miles on my new engine.
When we first stabbed the engine I think the oil pressure was almost center on the factory guage and has dropped since then. I got concerned so I bought a real guage and $#!%, &^$%, and *@%$ $*%&. I cannot get a better pressure at idle than 5# and 25# @ 2000 RPM. I do not want to change this new Melling high volume pump to find a problem with the short block I bought from Chrysler a month ago. Has any one had a problem with any of the short, crate, or long blocks magnums from Mopar Performance.
Any suggestions?

Message: Ouch. That doesn't sound good. Haven't seen anything about problems like that. If it were an LA, I'd say you had a partially spun cam bearing, but since it's a Magnum (and they don't oil through the #2 and #4 cam journals), I'd be looking at the oil pump. Now, did this new engine come with the Melling high vol. pump, or did you add it? If you added it, did you also add the high-strength oil pump shaft? This is pretty much a mandatory upgrade when hi-vol. pumps are used. If it came from the factory with the hi-vol. pump, it has the shaft. First impression would be a faulty pressure-relief valve/spring in the pump.
No other ticking noises or anything? Hope you didn't spin a main bearing. That's where I'd look next. Man, you just can't catch a break with that thing.

Message: First, however.....what weight oil are you using? Have you tried an oil change to see if it improves? Actually, 25 lbs at 2,000 rpm is fine. The general rule is 10 lbs per thousand rpm's. Granted, it's a tight, new engine, and a high volume pump, but if you're running a light oil, you won't see huge numbers. I think it should be higher than that, though. In light of the initial problems you had, that oil could be diluted by excess heat, possibly excess fuel. Start with fresh oil and see if it makes a difference. You should see more like 35-40 psi with a 30-weight oil. Put it this way, with 20W50, that Melling pump in a new 360 crate motor makes a rediculous 90psi at 6,000 rpm.

Message: Changed the oil last night and it is Gunmetal gray. No large chunks of metal just a silver swirl gray. Bearings somewhere are trashed. I'm calling Mopar Performance Tuesday. I can't believe this! I did use a hardened pump drive when I added the oil pump. Pressure drops with run time and heat.
I'm using Castrol Synthetic 10w/30, I always have. I rebuilt my 5.2 at 160K because the heads had cracks between the valves on #2 and #7. When we mic'd the crank I was able to go back with stock bearings and it never smoked. I would expect a lower oil pressure with Synthetic but I have never had it this low and this engine is new and should be tight.
No matter there is metal in the pan and I see it real good around the oil filter lip. I know there is no Warranty with most of the Mopar Performance parts, but if all I have is a 90 day that will be fine. My sales person said I had a 3/36. I just let him talk. That should be the warranty on your standard replacement motor or Delco Reman.
Gen1. It's nice to know that I have already addressed some of the items you comment on (like the hardened pump drive) It makes me feel better and I'm not second guessing my process as much.

Message: Hey gang looks like Cummins is drop shiping and picking this wasted short block Monday. They wanted me to try an oil pump first. I told them I would if they would send me a new block as soon as it fails and since they weren't paying for fluids, gaskets, cam, etc... I'd rather not. I didn't realize Cummings builds the MP crate motors and short blocks.
Anyway I went ahead and bought a new cam from Hughes Engines.
Part# HER2228AL 222/228 with .520/.544 lift 114 lobe seperation
I have to get all the parts cleaned real good and and order a new set of gaskets. Cummins told me not to use any oil that has the starburst on the can that says "for gasoline engine". They recommended Rotella or Truck/SUV Mobil 1.
Since I'm here again. What would you recommend on the Gasket set? Fel-pro? Copper Head Gaskets? RTV Intake? Where can I get them for a good price
I would like a better set of guide plates for my push rods. I'm using the ones that come on the Edelbrock Heads. A friend told me that I could chew up push rods with a bad set.
Like always thanks for you guys help.

Message: from the information ive seen and from my own troubleshooting 92 93 5.2 came with 19lb injectors.
94 95 came with 24lb injectors.
you should probably have 28 or 30.
with the different computers you can make a 30 run less by using the 5.2 or make the 28 run richer with the 5.9
good luck and let us know
