Subject: Test for belly pan leak IP: Logged
Message: I found this in the Mopar Magnum engine book, pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover, let it dangle, do not disconnect the PCV from the hose. Remove the hose from the breather cap on the other valve cover. With the engine running at idle, put a finger over the hole that the PCV came out of and another finger, or thumb, over the breather cap outlet that the hose come from. What you are doing is sealing the system, and within 15 seconds the crankcase should pressurize a little. Lift the finger off the PCV hole, and you will get a gust of air and oil vapor, IF your belly pan gasket is good. If not, you will get a vacuum there instead of pressure. You can also use a vacuum gage if you want, mine reads vacuum and a small amount of pressure for testing fuel pumps of older cars (lower pressure) so it will show the few pounds of pressure that should build up.
