Message: Info I have is for Dodge in general, rather than specific to Monaco. The 2bbl carb model was 9.2-1, 270hp@4400, 390tq@2800; 4bbl 325hp@4800, 425tq@2800 and 10-1 compression. My guess is the Monaco likely got the 4bbl; exhaust seats in the heads won't be hardened for use with leaded feul. Could be a good start for a rebuild if it still turns over.

Message: You've got a winner there. With a little work and the right transmission and rearend and you'll have every brand X kid in town green with envy. The 1966 model was before smog control. Check out Mopar Muscle mag issue September 2002 for a 383 buildup. There is also a 11 second dakota in there. Good luck on your build.

Message: I think the 383 will swap parts with the 400/440 engines for the most part.
I almost dropped a 383 into my Dad's old dodge truck with a 400 some years back but we just kept the 400 running a while longer yet. Musta been WAY over 300k miles on that bottom end! Not exagerating either!
