Message: Most likely the switch in the steering column. Can you switch between high & low beams?

Message: 98's didn't have daytime running lights. I had a similar problem and replaced the "Multifunction" switch- Turn signal/high beam. That solved it for me. You'll need a security Star Drive to change it. Cost $50.

Message: My 97 SLT 2wd EC just did this a week ago. Dealer serviced and it was day time running light relay. About $125 Cdn. for part and then the usual dealer shop charges of almost equal cost.

Message: I bought mine from the parts dept at my local stealership and asked the service rep if I would need to schedule a time to get a mech to replace it due to the security star and he had a mech do it on the spot without charging me anything.
Give it a shot....and say PLEASE! It worked for me.

Message: Unplug the drl relay under the hood on LH fender, just behind the lights. It's a black box about 3 inches square. If your running lights go out and you still have hi and low beam available (turn on the headlight switch) you need to replace the relay. If that doesn't work, it's probably the multifunction switch on the column.

Message: 1999 dodge Dakota that stopped running but
the high beams were stuck on only way to
turn them off was to unplug the battery.
We changed the battery it now starts but
high beams still won't turn off. We have
never replaced the headlights so I don't
think it's a wiring issue. But possibly
corroded wires or disconnected. Possibly a
relay or fuse. If you have any information
would be appreciated crap and easy or hard
and costly
