Subject: HO Cams - power everywhere? IP: Logged
Message: Considering the HO Cam swap in my 2004 Dakota 5-speed 4x4, 3.55 gears. I have read lots of posts on the HO cams, but just wanted to get opinions on power output. Do the cams make a difference throughout the RPM range, like torque right from 1500 rpm? The stock motor kind of stops making power at 4800 - 5000 rpm (horsepower peak is 4600). Will the cams help it pull past 5000rpm?
I pull a 4000+ lb 26ft trailer, and really need a bit more low end torque so I can pull 5th gear on the windy days.

Message: Seems like more torque everywhere; I pull a 24.5' fifth wheel camper - close to 5000 lbs. loaded heavy for a race weekend. Same gears as you, mine's a bit more aerodynamic.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way
