Message: his gear ratio in his axle doesnt change... he might be getting his low range in his transfer case confused with his gearing.

Message: i think he will win. 1st: he has a 5 speed. 2nd: his truck weighs alot less. dakotas are more capable as a truck, but are not race cars. ask him to hook bumpers with you and thats the real game. if you wanted to go fast, you should have gotten one of those new neon srt4's or whatever there called.

The interesting part of this test was that they loaded 1000lbs. into the bed and re-ran the quarter. The Toyota and Nissan still held the lead.
But, the reviewers also noted that the Toyota seemed to have a harder time staying in the power band in daily driving. The Dak was knocked for it's inability to perform better given that it had the only V8.

Message: granted, the dakota being beat by a bunch of v6's is pretty sad, considering its got a v8. but also look at it this way. is NOT a big v8 by any means. and, as i mentioned before, its alot heavier. dodge should stop f'en around and beef up the engine to keep up with competition. i dont have any complaints though. my 93 5.2 has more than enough power. i personally dont care if someone elses truck is "faster" because i know mine will haul way more on a trailer.

Message: With only a 215lb weight advantage (4572lb vs 4787lb), the Frontier's 0-60 & 1/4 mile times were alot quicker than the HO Dakota.
0-60 Times:
Frontier:7.6 seconds
Dakota: 8.5 seconds
1/4 Mile Times:
Frontier: 16.1@86
Dakota: 16.7@82
C&D Do-It-All Compact Pickups Comparison Test:
C&D listed the Dakota engine power as 250 @ 5200 RPM & 300 pound-feet of torque @ 3,600 RPM.
Dodge website:
4.7-liter V8 High-Output MagnumŽ engine makes 260 horsepower at 5,200 RPM and 310 pounds-feet of torque at 3,500 RPM.
C&D's figures (HP & TQ) are a little off. Performance numbers seem to be expected since they tested with the 3.55 gear ratio.
Previously, Tim stated, "Motor Trend also shows that the V6 Toyota requires premium fuel."
On the Toyota Website it states, "Premium unleaded fuel recommended for V6 models for optimum fuel economy and performance."
At minimum, regular unleaded is required for the Tacoma.
