ARe you referring to the Performer RPM AirGap? If so, it's an awesome intake that makes huge torque down low in true dual plane tradition, but also actually smokes most single plane intakes in the HP dept. I'm wondering about the Crosswinds unit myself. It looks to be the LA version, but modified with the bolt bosses for use with Magnums as well. This was how it was done if you had a good LA intake, and didn't want the M1's cost. I'm just wondering why it's so much less expensive.

As a slightly cheaper alternative to the M1 mopar makes a single plane manifold for the multi-port 5.2/5.9 Summit racing carries them for around $290.

Just out of curiousity I took at look at the crosswind manifold that I think you were talking about on ebay. If you look closely it looks like there are ports where you could drill out holes for injector bosses. I emailed the seller and said they are meant to be drilled out for nitrous, but you would do it for injectors if you wanted to as well. He wasn't sure if it would work but said it was worth a shot. It's a nice looking manifold for only $135. I'm not sure how crazy I am about drilling holes in a manifold to stick fuel injectors in though :(

Yeah, it'd work. I've seen the same thing done to various other intakes "intended" for carbs.

once ya get the holes drilled, and whatever else you would need to convert that manifold to carb, if anything... youd be over the cost of an m1.....

so, it looks like we're still stuck with one option.

That's another variant of the M1 for Magnum. It's a "one size fits all" type that allows carb or MPI in one. I have a predecessor to this model that was produced with undrilled MPI bosses so one could start out with a carb (and stay), or move to MPI when the equipment was available.

I would think that it would really suck on a stock engine. Seems that you would lose a lot of bottom end. Basically, worse than a regular M1.

Here's a pic of the Crosswinds manifold that is selling on ebay, $135 bucks is probably the best deal you'll find for an aftermarket manifold for our truck. The only issue with these is that you have to drill out the ports for the injectors. Seems a little sketchy to me, but apparently it can be done without problem.

It can be done, but it takes a competent machinist to do it. Not something you would want to tackle with a hand drill or even a drill press.

That crosswinds intake looks like a dual plane and I wouldnt recomend converting a dual plane manifold for multiport fuel injection. Since the runners for the 3-4-5-6 cylindars are drasticly different lenghts than the 1-2-7-8 you would not get equal airflow to all the ports. It is probably doable, but you would never get the best benefits of multiport because some cylindars would be really rich and others lean. Most conversions of a carburator intake to efi are done on single planes because they get more equalized flow. The dual plane works great for tbi carb because it has a strong vacume signal but that is not so important on multi port setups, the main concern with them is equal flow so all the cylindars make close to the same power. The performer RPM is also a dual plane, probably the best intake you can buy for a carburated engine, but it was never intended for efi, and will not work well with it.

A regular M1? The only difference is the opening setup for a 4V carb of throttle body, instead of the 2V, which is what the adapter is for.

Looks shorter or lower than M1s that I have seen. Is it the standard 4bbl. configuration. Yes, I have seen a few M1 4bbls and with adapters too.

Yeah, it's a 4V. Convenient because you could later bolt on 1000cfm throttle body, pop the injectors in and boogie. It does look shorter in that pic, but take a look at the airflow dividers inside. I haven't read anything about them being shorter. I'm thinking it's just the angle the pic is taken at.

Hughes Engines has a modified Barrel Intake available. The price is a little high, so I modified mine myself. My mods were not as extensive as H.E. but still effective. I made a filler panel for the cavern under the runners and epoxied it in place. I made sure to have a smooth surface by the runner entrance(no lip). I also shortened my runners by 5/8 of an inch and gasket matched the exit(a lot of area to open it up). What a differnce in torque but admitedly I didn't notice much at the top end.
