1999 dakota v8 5.2
about 2 days ago i shut my truck off for about half an hour then went to start it and it would not turn over the first time, the second time it fired and blurped a bit then idled like normal, the next morning same thing, after a couple of those it would fire right up the 2nd try without hesitation, the only weird thing is if it sits longer then half an hour it will do that if less it starts first turn..........Anybody? thanks

There's about 3 things that cause this:
1. Fuel pump check valve sticking and allowing fuel pressure to bleed off back into the tank.
2. Bad fuel pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed off.
3. Leaky fuel injectors causing fuel to leak into the intake manifold/intake ports (in my opinion, the worse of the 3).
With the fuel pressure bled off, it takes a bit of cranking to get the pressure up to a point where your engine will start and run. To test the fuel pressure bleed off theory, turn your ignition on and wait a few seconds then off and repeat this procedure a couple more times. Then try to start your truck (BTW, your truck will run the standard OBD II test if you do this 3 times, leaving the key on the 3rd time and it'll display in your odometer) if your truck starts without any problems, your fuel pressure is bleeding off when your truck sits for an extended period of time. You can also connect a fuel pressure gauge to the Schroeder valve on your fuel rail and start your truck, note the operating fuel pressure (I think the 5.2 is suppose to be about 39lbs) then shut off the engine, the pressure should hold pretty steady for 30 minutes.
My bet is your fuel pump check valve is sticking due to dirty gas leaving deposits in the fuel system. It doesn't take much to hang up that check valve, especially if the gas has got a lot of contaminates. I just mix STP fuel injector cleaner and Marvel Mystery oil then pour it into my tank when I go to fill up next. It usually solves the problem and is cheaper than replacing the fuel pump. Good luck!
