Subject: ck engine light before 1st 2000 miles! IP: Logged
Message: I recently totaled my 98 dak unfortunately, and replaced it with a brand spankin' new 2005 quad cab 4X4 laramie V8. I decided to stick with Dodge because out of the 5 years I had my last dak, I encountered 0 discrepancies and until the day it retired, it ran like a charm. I knocked over the 2,000 mile mark a few days ago, and at around 3pm today, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I took it to the local zone(autozone) first, and thier OBDII came up with a "LINK ERROR", so I headed to the dealership. 2 cups of cofee and a couple cigs later, they came in and told me that their machine had pulled up a "3675 WLH HAD FAULT CODES FOR LOST COMM TO THE HVAC CONTROL HEAD". Thats word for word straight off the invoice. They told me that it's nothing to worry about, reset my computer, and sent me off with a little white piece of paper.
So lets see if any of you motor heads can figure this out, because I have never heard of an HVAC control head problem, much less ANY kind of problem before the first oil change. So someone correct me if i'm wrong for thinking that the guys at the dealership were just trying to get me in and out asap. Once you go Dodge, you never go back.

Message: The 05's use a standardized computer system called CAN for communication between the electronic modules. (CAN stands for Controller Area Network -- it's defined by SAE J1939 and ISO 11783 if you feel like some technical reading.) I bet this was an error with that.

Message: I can beat you on that one! My check engine light came on on the trip home from signing the papers (less that 15 miles on odo) Turned around prepared to shove a truck up the dealers ass, and was in and out of the service bay in about an hour. My problem was a missing line of program code on temp relay, dont have the TSB handy but no lights anymore. Now if I can figure out the gas gauge it'll be ok.

Message: It has an intermettent problem with not wanting to show the correct level after a fill up. I have to shut off and reset the computer to get a true read.
Kowalski has a post somewhere on here about it also.

Message: if you are still on warranty, take it back and bitch at the service guy.when they say its no big deal, f that. its a big deal when you spend 20-30k on a truck and the stupid dash lights go off not long after you have it.
ive been down that road. i am still going down that road with my tranny. just get pissed off when you show up and you get what you want more often. especially when there is other customers present.
