Message: I have a question about when you guys with the 4.7l V-8 change your oil, is it over the full mark about the width of the safe mark on the dipstick or did I add to much oil. Thanks

Message: If it is over the full mark then you have added too much oil and that is usually not good for an engine. The region between the lines is you operating range, meaning that the engine will function just fine if the oil is in that area, not above or below.

Message: I have always added what the manual say's which is 6 qts. with the oil and filter change.
True, the dipstick mark appears slightly over, maybe half a quart or so. I continue to go with the recomended 6 quarts and don't feel that being a little over on the dipstick is a problem.

Message: You need to let it drain longer with filter off and plug out.
When I change mine, I remove filter and plug then let it drain to a slow dribble. Then I jack up each front corner a bit and let it drain over a drink.
I always fill the filter halfway with fresh oil before installing it also...helps get oil flowing sooner.
6qts Mobil1 and a Wix 51085 filter.
