Stopped and got lunch today, shut the 01 Dak qc 51k down. When getting back on the main drag the tranny when shifting I think to over drive felt like it whent to nuetral. RPMs shot up, I got off the throttle eased back up no prob. Came to another stop light did the same thing agin. Pulled over checked fluid level in trans, showed full. Then did not do it agin. Any one else experince anything like this??? Any Ideas? I mainly drive hiway miles and not very hard on it in the city. Thanks for the help.

I myself had a similar problem twice. 2001 Club Cab Motorsports Edition Dak - auto. 9500 miles. Went to burger king the other night, sitting at the drive thru, went to pull out, engine reved, truck just kinda rolled out, so I changed gears to see if the tranny would catch, and it didnt, so I shut it off, and turned it back on, still didnt work, so I said the h ell with it and just gassed it as I was pulling out, and it seemed to catch gear and was fine. But that had happened once before, I thought when I changed gears it just didnt catch all the way, but this time, I never left drive. I called a couple dealers about it today, and they didnt know anything about it, said they never heard it. So, I gotta bring it in and have them look at it. I had brought it in for the tranny already, sounded like a grinding noise when shifting gears, they "looked and listened" and said it was just the rear leaf springs loading and unloading when changing gears.. If I find out anything, ill post it.

Hey Nicolas, thanks for the reply. Please do post any info you get. It was a very strange experience and I hope it just goes away. The only thing I thought was either an air bubble or a siliniod not activating. Gator

I had a problem similar to what you guys are having. I changed the trans filter and fluid and the problem stoped. Maybe there isnt enough line pressure in the valve body due to a clogged filter......

Hey Brian, I Droped the trany pan when it hit 30k. Put in both new filters. They have a canister and a sump membrain unit. I also put a drain plug in the pan. I drain the trany fluid every 3rd oil change. It takes 6 quarts to fill it with the drain plug method. If you do this is should extend the trany life. So thats why I'm pissed about the trany burb. I had this problem also on the highway when I accelerated into OD the RPMs and torgue dropped way off. Later I found that I was not completely in drive. A slight movement of the shifter fixed the problem.

word of advice. Keep up with your maintanence.
a buddy of mine has a 2000 ram. w 5.9 auto. tranny went at 37,000 mi. he called chrysler- told him that because he lives in new york state, He should follow the "Harsh" schedual with more frequent maint. , and since his $32,000 ram came with a tow package, it is ASSUMED that he tows- no if. ands or buts. Told him that He should have had tranny service at 14,000 mi. not just at 30,000 mi. and don't think you can go to the tranny shop down the street, they told him has to be documented at a Dodge dealer! bill at middletown dodge dealer----$4300.00 ouch!!!
just keep it in mind!!!! he will when he buys his next chevy.
Like a wise man once said-
"Hey davey what just happened here". "I think we just got hosed," "awhh poor davy."
oh wait that was a mountian dew commercial never mind.

1999 dak 5.2 auto with no mods.
can't afford to void warrantee had too many problems.

If I rememeber right the over-drive on all dakotas is electronic, check the fuses. Mine used to do the same thing, that fixed it.

Another thing to look for, is watch out for thinking your in gear when your not. the indicator on the gauge panel isn't always right. sometimes I will be in drive, but it will say neutral. same with reverse. seems like the orange indicator has some slack in it and can misread at times.

Thanks for all the good feed back. I have not had the problem reacure! I think it was possibly due to not having the grear selector completely in the proper position.
I do suggest to you guys to put a trans drain plug in the rear of your pan and drain it every few oil changes. Keeps the debri out and fluid fresh. Gator
