Message: I have that exact same problem. I changed the termostat to a 180 last weekend and it hasn't changed a thing. It still overheats and stops blowing hot air out of the heater just like you explained. Does anyone know what else I can try?

Message: Make sure you don't have an air pocket in the cooling system - the heater won't get much heat from a hot air pocket as it is much less dense than hot water.

Message: IF the coolant isn't hot, it may be your coolant temp sensor going bad..I busted mine on my 5.9, when i was installing a new intake manifold, it would peg out hot, then return to normal, then peg out over and over, then one day it just pegged out, and the check engine light came on... you should be able to get one from napa for 10-14, the stealership wants like 50 bucks... its right behind the thermo housing... the others are right on too, could just be a bad thermostat.

Message: yeah i changed out the thermo and got my oil changed as well as a coolant flush. When they guy first was flusing out my coolant he had to stop because he said that it was not flowing past the thermo, so i changed it out in the parking lot (LOL) and then everthing worked fine.
drove fine on the way home, but today on the way to work it started acted up again.
its a 5.2l, i also noticed that it looks like oil is leaking out of my driver side crankcase breather filter.
any other ideas? I really need some help here.

Message: I'm curious about this coolant temp sensor. How easy is it to replace? And how can I tell if it's bad or not, is there any way to know? Thanks for all the info.

Message: that temp sensor is right behind the Alternator, next to the thermo housing, its about 1/2 in diameter, brass, and a black plastic top with a two prong wire connector. USUALLY, the check engine light comes on if it fails out completely, but IF its just starting to go bad, it won't, it'll just give false engine temp readings. it uses electric resistance to give a reading on the guage, and input in volts to the PCM. when the resistance is high, it shows hot, when its low, it reads cold, so if its starting to fail, it'll give a false hot condition. it gives info to the PCM for fuel mixture too, I could feel a difference with the acceleration when mine broke. its pretty easy to do, a 1/2 inch (or 13mm) deep socket, and an extension, and ratchet... I did mine with a socket and a speed handle, and dont forget to use teflon tape or sealant to reinstall.

Message: Thanks athenianR/T for the info, I'll have to check that out. One more thing I have noticed is that when the thermostat is reading above the normal temp my truck seems to idle faster. So when I let off my brake w/o pushing on the gas it will take off a little faster, but once the temp goes back down it goes back to normal. Any other ideas?

Message: Well I decided to top off my coolant with water and so far that seems to have solved the problem. My heater still doesn't blow hot air so there could be an air bubble, but my overheating problem has gone away. It's too bad I checked my brakes and while doing that noticed my CV joint was leaking...one more thing to fix. Thanks for all your help.

Message: If you get to the CV joint right away, sometimes you can just replace the boot that holds the grease in before the joint goes bad.

Message: How do I know if the joint is bad or not? When I have it in 4 wheel drive it still seems to work just fine. I am in a auto class and my teacher is kind of lazy about problems and when he told me he just said I need to replace the whole CV joint. He said it would cost about $65 for the joint and my teacher would help me do it. So if it is just the boot that should save me some cash, but if it is bad how do i know it? Thanks

Message: Noise and clunking feeling like a bad U-joint. If you've still been driving on it and you can get a new one installed for $65, that's a great deal, might as well go for it.
