A518 tranny
problem: i got this truck a few weeks ago. and i took it to mobile 1 lube center to have the tranny flushed. well, i started to notice shifting problems. the transmission ended up being 2 quarts overfilled, and i drove it like that for about 2 weeks. now, when i put it in drive, sometimes it shifts early, sometimes it shifts hard, or way way way too soft. once in a while, like once a day, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the engine pegs out between the shift. if i shift it manually from the column, it shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, but always pegs out the engine(revs it out) when i go from (2) to (D). so instead of just shifting from 2nd to 3rd, when shifting, it revs up high comming out of 2nd, and drops back down a second later when gettting into 3rd. it does not burn fluid. it doesnt slip what so ever. could this be an electrical problem? im at a loss. i did pull out some fluid, and then put in the lucas transmission fix. its at the right level now. any help would be great....

Message: should of taken it back to the place yo uhad your tranny serviced at. now beings yo uremoved the fluid you cant prove it was something they did and they wont pay for damages to your tranny being over filled. this is why I always check my fluid levels when someone changes them. cant count how many times they shorted my out of 2 quarts of oil. I also dont like putting in additives in to my engine and tranny and stuff. yo usont know how it will react in there.
you might need your filter replaced. after having it flushed there night have been some junk break loose and cloged your filter. or maybe not the right fluid was put back in the tranny.

Message: Not an electrical problem. Most likely, you have trash in the valve body as a result of the flush. This is affecting flow through the valve body, and shifting is resultantly erratic.

Message: I had a similar problem, driving home one night and dropped the hammer passing a diesel. I manually shifted into 2nd and was bumping into higher gears but the tranny would never come out of 2nd, I didn't find that out until I had the shifter in neutral,,, OUCH. Engine taching out at 6K then I hit neutral.
Luckily the engine lived and I limped the mis-shifting tranny home. I wrote the tranny off for a week then decided to drop the pan and inspect the dead tranny. After checking out everything in the valve body and replacing the filter and fluid I buttoned it back up, couldn't find any problems???
There must have been a peice of garbage stick in the valve body somewhere that I cleaned out because the tranny drove perfectly afterwards, never had another problem? Junk in the valve body is the only thing that made sense as the filter and fluid were in good condition.
