Subject: Supercharing with out retard IP: Logged
Message: Curently running the powerdyne sc #9 with the fmu msd 6a/blaster ss/and msd8.5mm. I gapped my plugs at .35. I also have the mopar PCM
I seem to get a little ping 4k+, what can i do to prevent this with out having to retard the timing? Would bigger injectors solve/help the prob?
Are my stocks on the 99 5.2 21#? If so which ones should i go with, 24#fms or 26#?
thanks!

Message: I run water injection to help cool the air temp out of my s/c. You could also run an intercooler.

Message: My guess is that it's due to to much timing advance for that much boost pressure. Why don't you want to retard the timing? You may end up melting a piston of burning up your valves if you keep running to much timing. If your worried about losing power, ask yourself this. Whats more important? keeping my engine running safe or that extra 2hp?
Any properly tuned engine thats running forced induction (factory vehicles included) is going to have some timing retard as the boost pressure goes up. It makes no sense to me why someome would risk the longevity of their engine over a few hp. I could be way off base here, but most people that I have run across that don't want to run any timing retard do it for one of two reasons (both of which IMO are stuipid and not worth the risk)
A) They don't want to fork over the cash for the retard device (crane "trc-1" and msd "btm" both of which can be had for under $100, or a stand alone system)
B) are worried about losing a few hp by not running as much timing advance.
The way I see it, your engine's timing advance is good for a stock engine (N/A) but with forced induction the stock map is not good enough. You don't run the stock fuel maps do you? (ok well the ecu seems to think so, the fmu does otherwise so yes you are using stock maps (software) but your engine isn't getting the fuel of the stock maps so your not actually runing stock maps) so why use stock timing maps?
I'm no expert when it comes to forced induction, but i've seen enough melted pistons to know that to much timing advance isn't a good thing esp when your pushing your motor close to it's limits.
Oh and adding more fuel probably would cool the combustion chambers but thats only masking a problem not fixing a problem (tape will only stick to a wall for so long).
Here do some reading up and decide for yourself whats right for you..

Message: Either go back with the stock PCM (which will restore a milder ignition advance curve), reduce boost pressure, or plumb in an intercooler. Any of these will eliminate mild pinging, and you'll actually make more power since ping robs HP.
