Subject: 4.7 question IP: Logged
Message: How high can a stock internals 4.7 safley rev? And where does the average 4.7 peak? I would think that these engines would like to rev.

Message: Safely? I've had mine at 6700-6800 rpm for extended periods of time without grenading. I held it right at the rev limiter for miles.....Is that safe? hehehe The stock pcm programming and intake/exhaust restrictions make the stock 4.7 peak at about 5000 rpm.

Message: I was thinking of getting my pcm programmed and was kinda wondering where would be the best shift points(auto) for the 1/4. I'm guessing 6500 or 6700? Is this too high?

Message: Yes.... that's too high of a shift point unless you have all the rest of the stuff to back it up. I would probably have it set at between 5500 and 6000 rpms if you have some other mods.
Just because it will physically wind that tight doesn't necessarily mean it's making power there....I was just "testing" things. hehehe

Message: I just did it tonight, not too bad, but I did it on accident. My shift point is right around 5000 or a just wee tad after too.
Not much power after 5500, just noize.

Message: I feel my power flatten out just past 5000 RPM's. I shift at about the same point CW does. That also puts me at a pretty good spot in the next gear RPM wise. As far as an auto tranny....I would go with Duner's recommendation. The gear ratios in the auto are farther apart than the NV3500, so shifting slightly higher would make sense to put you in the right spot in the next gear.
