Subject: O/D question IP: Logged
Message: Just driving around town going 30-35 should my truck be in overdrive at just a little over 1000 rpms? I didn't think the overdrive was supposed to kick in going that slow. I noticed this after I put a CAI on my 99 5.2 4x4. I can manually kick it out of overdrive and it will be a little over 1500 rpms and gas mileage will be the same.

Message: I automatically kick off my overdrive whenever I get inot my truck, unless I'm getting on the highway or getting up over 50. it just seems to drive better that way, but thats my 2 cents...

Message: I dont turn my OD back on untill I get over 50 MPH. driving at 35 the truck acts like a manual trans thats in 5th gear going 35 it bucks too much and seems it want to shift. also towing at that low of speed might put stress on your trans. beings your at low rpm. I dont know for sure because I dont know much about towing. I just got done towing a trailer and in town I keep the od off and had no prob around town.
in the end its your truck do what ya want with it.
