Message: I have a 1997 V6 4X4 Dodge Dakota, and I am thinking about doing 1 of 3 things, #1 Putting a 318 or 360 carberated engine in it, #2 Putting a Chevy small block in like they do with jeeps (Just personal preference) or saying piss on it and buying a V8 Truck. I have a car so I don’t mind taking my time and I like doing this kind of work. I want to rebuild the engine this summer and put in the engine this fall. What has been done? I am considering at carberated engine because I don’t want to change the wiring harness and like the aftermarket carbs they make.
Please Help.

Message: It's less work to change the wiring harness and PCM than it is to go with a carburetor. If it's a stick, you've eliminated that problem, but you still would want a speedometer. I'm sure there are also a few other issues.

Message: Go with the carb and the 360ci. Keep the cheby in a cheby. Anyone can buy a v8 already in, but if you can build one yourself it is 1 OF A KIND!

Message: i just did a swap from 3.9 to a 318 magnum carb. engine. you will need a oil pan for any v8 you put in, unless it come from a dakota. i used the professional products crosswind intake. your exhaust should line up if you use the stock maifold, it works on a 318. i have a 904 tranny on the back tho. when you pull it out to do the swap, you can simply unsnap the wiring harness and shove the big wad of wires all in the big loom. all shoves back in the fender. thats what i did, all siganls light, wipers everything still works. you can remove the computer. when i do get some pics, i'll showyou where im at on mine.
