Message: I got 17.3 MPG driving from Minneapolis, MN to Ames, IA with my 1998 5.2L dakota. I drove 75 in MN and 70 in IA. It is the best MPG I have ever got. There is hope for a truck with 108K on it. Only mod is a Intense Performance Stage 3 Intake.

Message: I used to gripe about my mileage (13-18) on my 1995 5.2L SLT Club Cab 4x4. Then I met a guy with a gen2 V6 CC 4x4 who was getting 12-14. No I bitch because the beast isn't running.

Message: That's as good as it gets. I've tried numerous ways to improve the mpg but none have worked for more than a day. I've seen 23mpg but no more than a day. The computer is set to shove a certain amaount of fuel through the engine. The only way to improve the mileage is to install a MegaSquirt computer and an MSD ignition box and program it right. ie: 18:1 fuel air ratio at light pedal cruise.

Message: With my "home brew" cold air intake, magnaflow exhaust, synthetic oil, and tonneau cover, I have managed to get 17.5 MPG highway miles in my 2003 quad cab. I also ease into the gas pretty well but I occasionally romp on it when I get pissed off in city traffic. I think that has a lot to do with MPG in city driving. I hope to break the 18 MPG barrier with my throttle body spacer, and a modification to the throttle body by reaming out the "Lip" in my throttle body as well as creating a new S bolt to eliminate the square metal plate that holds the assembly down. You would think that Dodge would think of these things when designing an engine. But then again, mass production must take the way of quality versus profit through quick production. Does anyone know if I should make my IAT run more fuel rich to make up for the mods that I have done? Or should I leave the IAT where it is on my Cold Air Intake which is pretty much where it was on the factory Air hat? Any input is appreciated. Thanx.

Message: After driving a few months without paying attention on consumption,(even that way i was getting 18.7 MPG), i went for one more test.
when i`m testing, i try for the maximum MPG as possible,(without forming lines behind me or going at less than the speed limit). I drove to get 22MPG but after 380 miles, i could only strech it to 20.2.. Iwas worried cause i always can get more than that.
Than i realize that my 3923 plugs has 27K miles on them, and i notice a very little miss firing between 800 and 1600 RPM, specially going up hill.
So, i replaced the plugs,(3923) and went on another attempt. The difference wan incredible.
I went from 20.2 to 23.9 on the first couple days, than, i allowed the average to drop to 22(was really difficult to keep that high), and than, i`m back to normal driving and now, after 1150 miles, my average is 21.6. when i do the math w/ pen and paper, it is 21.8, wich is consistent with the 0.2 mpg that my computer always showed less. You can not imagine how much tork i gained just by replacing the plugs.
My truck is a 2000 4.7, CC, SLT w/ every available option but ABS(I hate them), 2wd, 3.92 LSD, K&N FIPK2, true 68 fastman TB, H.O.intake and cams, Gibson headers and single cat back, no fan clutch, 180* Tstat, Jet2 chip to be replaced sum w/ the Leash flash, and 93 octanes gas.
Remember; 80% of the comsumption equation, is in the rigth foot menagement and watch your rpm.

What? your talkin old magnum stuff except for taking out the "tourque step". And I can say from personal experience, it's not going to help your milage. Also running you AIT sensor rich is going to give you really $hitty milage if anything.
I'm averaging 21.4 by the paper in front of me with 1400 MI of mixed driving.
Now have 2003 4.7 reg cab NV3500HD 3.92 and roll top bed cover that might have got me 1 MPG.

Message: MegaSquirt is a build it yourself programmable EFI controller that costs about $130 and requires assembly. Its home page is:
www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
The place for official support www.msefi.com
I'm not trying to advertise since I don't have one up and running yet, but hte site does have peopel who do. I just don't like being locked into shoving so much fuel through an engine according to someone elses... preferences.

Message: Yeah, a guy I met in Plainview Tx claimed he got 25mpg on his '94 (V8 CC 4x4) but he was full of #$%@^&* on the stuff I could verify, so... if I can get the finances around, I'd rebuild mine for another 165K+. Might need to go with LPG to afford running it, though...
