Message: Truck is a 2000 4.7L 4X4 165,000 miles with the optional heavy duty engine cooling. I have replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, and hoses but the coolant still boils out during normal driving. What am I missing? Is there some other component that needs to be checked? I'm trying to avoid taking this to the dealer. Thanks!

Message: Sounds like a head gasket failure. Take it to a competant shop, and they can test the coolant for products of combustion.

Message: I had the exact same problem last summer. I started overheating really bad, even in highway driving I was running around 210 with a 195 thermostat. I replaced the waterpump, a few hoses, backflushed the heater core, went through like 3 different thermostats, new belt, etc. I was totally at a loss. I finally decided to take out the entire radiator and take the reservoirs off the sides. I got them off and looked at the core of the radiator to see that all the tubes were totally clogged full of deposits and a little RTV that I was dumb enough to use when I changed my thermostat a few months ago. At last resort check your radiator, it could be clogged as hell.

Message: Have you checked your radiator cap? If it's not functioning properly, it can cause overheating problems.

Message: We just bought a 98 Dodge Dakota with a V8 5.9 liter. It only has 99000 miles on it. It started overheating, and we had a 195 thermostat put on it and a new radiator. The mechanic ran a test to see if it had a head gasket prob, but said it came out ok.We found out that the fan had a loose wire, and it wasn't coming on sometimes, so we fixed that. But if you idle for even a couple of min with the ac on the temp starts climbing past 210. what else should we do?
