Message: well, my guess would be combination of two things, a, resetting the computer. But more importantly its the way you were driving, after puttin the filter(intakes are big metal things bolted to the block) I am sure you tested the performance, which kills MPG. I can get 10 miles ot the gallon in the 99 5.2 if I want, but if I go the other way I can get about 16 to 17 in town. THe filter kit should help mileage in the end

Message: I have the 360 on my 4.7L. Initially I killed my mpg as well because of what farmer said. I hauled ass everywhere just to listen to the cool sound and enjoy the new found throttle response. Then when I back off I gained about 1.5mpg. Not bad. 3923's and a 180 T-stat are next. I just have to put them in.

Message: I ordered my intake but have not got it yet, but do I have to reset the PCM after I install? I didnt think that you had to do the reset because the computer will just learn as you go?

Message: You don't need to reset the computer it will take a few hundred miles to learn the settings. but it will take that long even if you reset it because you wont drive normal for a few days.
My MPG went from 15 to 17.5 after I installed the Volant system (10-12 the first week Humm I wonder why)

Message: I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7 4x4 and I just had a local speed shop do a custom intake and exhaust for me. I love the look and the sound, but my mileage dropped as well. At first I thought it was because I was still hooked on the noise and planting my foot at every opportunity, but then I really tried hard to drive sensibly and that still didn't work. It wasn't until I took a long road trip that the computer finally relearned the new setup and now I'm getting great mileage. Keep Driving.

Message: Installed The Volant Air Intake today. Dam, it was hard to get stock box out of there with those 2 plastic bolts. Installed without the heat shield and it was a little tough to get the coupling on the TB.
