I met a guy that says that his 1996 Dakota with the 318 has a shelby package that includes a factory JET chip. I did a little bit of research for myself, and I could only find info on a 1989 Shelby Dakota. and that site said that the Shelby was only available in '89 and that they were only made in red and white. His is black.
does any one know about this ?

Sounds like this guy you met is full of crap. The only real Shelby Dakota was made in 1989. The other info you mentioned was correct. Red and white only, regular cab, 2wd. Had a 5.2L (318) automatic. Shelby was pretty much out of the Dodge business by 1989, although he did make a special Durango years later.
I had to laugh...factory JET chip? Yeah, like the factory would use "performance" parts that don't work. Chrysler makes it's own performance computers, so really makes no sense to use something from another company.
Slap this guy upside his head.

Cody, he's yankin' your chain. The only Shelby Dakota was the 1989. There were 1500 of them. 2/3 of them were red, the rest were white. Shelby also built a single twin-turbo 360-powered Dakota (not sure if it was an '89 or '90, but, unfortunately, it never went to production.

Well Mr. Shelby "helped" with the Viper, but what I meant was that he wasn't selling his Shelby named vehicles like he did from 1986-89. The shop in Whittier was no more, etc. It was a "Dodge" Viper.

Your right about the Shelby Durango. I saw one about a month ago, can't remember what year those were, '98/'99?
