Subject: Plugs on a 2003 V8 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Ok... maybe I'm just old and blind but I just opened the hood to replace my spark plugs and can't find them. I also did a search on this site to see if this has been covered already and no luck.... I have changed plugs many times before on an older Dak and other brands but this is the first time I could not actually find them.
Any hints?

Message: They're under the 8 individual coils inboard side of the valve covers.

Message: Yep right on top of the engine instead of below the valve covers. You'll have to take off the air intake plenum and pop the heater transfer tubes loose to gain access to them. They're quite time consuming. I could change plugs in my 93 318 Dak in 15 minutes. First time for my 4.7 was over an hour.
I'd suggest blowing the crap off the top of the engine with air before starting cause when you take the plugs out crap can fall in the cyl. A tiny pebble could do major damage.

Message: Plugs are very easy to change on the 4.7L. Take your time, but you can do all 8 in about 30 minutes. Don't overtighten the plugs or nuts on top of the coil packs and you'll be all set.

Message: Found from experience that Champion plugs run best in Mopar engines, incl 4.7
Try platinum 3318 for 1 mpg better
After changing the back 3 plugs on a 94 caravan, the ones on 4.7 are a breeze
Actually Dak 4.7 sits better than Ram 4.7. Two rear ones hide under firewall on Ram.
I wish all engines had top-side plugs.
