Message: what are you running now? stock? what is your definition of "better"? there is a HUGE difference between what one person considers better when it comes to exhaust... my mother would consider better to be quiet, while I consider better as shaking the earth beneath pedestrians feet. how much are you willing to remove, replace? Exhaust has five parts, headers, Y pipe, cats, muffler, and tail pipes. removing cats makes it louder, muffler sets the tone, and rpm range of that tone too, hence the 2 k drone of the two chamber Flowmasters. pipe diameter affects tone too, larger=louder. manifolds or headers will unleash some sound, but not as much as mufflers... SUMMIT OFFERS "CHEAP" HEADERS AROUND $300, straight drop ins for the manifold on V8 models.. NOW heres another solid point. you want a smooth exhaust, but want a more pronounced acceleration note? do a performance intake setup. sounds funky, but that stock setup is a silencing tube, hence the accordian style inlet tube. now, if you're wanting the least expense, and something that'll open up the entire rpm range of exhaust note, then go to a muffler alone, or do a catback setup... maybe something like a flowmaster two chamber turn down style.... which brings up another point... what do you want for tailpipes? single, dual, no tube showing? I guess I've rambled enough. my point is you're gonna have to decide what you're willing to spend, and on what you want out of the exhaust note. I hope this info helps!
