I have a 2002 4.7 liter dodge dakota , 137,000 miles , water
started disappearing out of my radiator, about pint at a time,
not leaking external at all, pulled plugs all were there same
except #7 this plug was white no carbon , put some stop leak
in the radiator , not leaking now, could this be a head gasket or
could it be in the intake gasket, engine runs fine not skipping,

You have classic symptoms of a blown head gasket -
the white sparkplug. It's getting steam cleaned.
Replace the head gasket before any more damage
occurs.

My girlfriend has a 2000 dodge sport with the
4.7 engine. And it will not ideal. People have
suggested many options. But new spark plugs
and everything except fuel filter. Still no
change. When very cold there is alot of black
smoke until warmed up . Frustrated please help

I have a 2004 dodge Dakota 4x4 with the 4.7 in it I bought it with a broken spark plug in head .I removed it and got it running it idles good and will rev up good but when put in gear it has no power. now the exhust got red hot so I replaced the cats but still the same there r no engine codes on I replaced the plugs 2 times and when I pulled them out left bank had 3 fouled out and 1 that was still white and wet can some tell me if they have had this problem and also what year 4.7 will fit in this Dakota ...thanks

Engine in my 00 Dakota 4.7 DOA. Found another engine
to swap out for $600 in a 02 Dakota 4.7 Will it
work? Are the engines the same in all details?

Probably.
There was a change in '03 on the tone rings but it shouldn't affect the '02.
If the engine is still in the truck look at the PCM. You want to see 3 connectors. If it has 4, it won't work.
If it's out of the truck, pull the RH cam cover. If you see NGC stamped on the it won't work.

How common is it for the 4.7's cam to come undone enough to
shoot a rocker thru the valve cover? The discontinued side , of
course!
Was it due to
a) thermostat failure
Coolant level never dropped.
b) water pump failure
Top radiator hose was hard as a rock
c) loose rocker assembly
Puffed single poof of grey smoke upon start along
with tapping that went away kinda soon
d) job security for the reman's association
Because I am now shopping for a replacement
motor!!
Let's see if this fail can be TAPPED ( top ended), topped I
think I mean...

Hello everyone I have a 2001 dodge Dakota sport 4.7 , w
manual transmission. Up til 3 years ago did I start having any
real problems w it. I had to replace the transmission. So I had
it rebuilt . Everything was good for about a year and then the
bearings went out in the tranny. That was no Palm. But just
bout 6 months ago it started making like a scraping or
grinding noise again. And it is progressively getting worse. So I
just have it parked. Also when when I begin to slow down my
rpm needle starts bouncing so all over the place.. It even starts
idling high for a few seconds as I'm stopped.. Then it returns to
normal idling. Any ideas what it could be?
