Message: I just bought a 2000 Dakota w/4.7, 138,000 mi.,
Fri. 1/27/12 from a personal seller, as is of
course. I drove it straight home and noticed no
probs. Sat. 1/28/12 the next morning, while
driving across town, my oil pressure dropped to
zero, but would come back to normal, and would do
this at random while driving or at a stop. I was
told it was probably just the sending unit since
there wasn't any noticeable noise. I parked it
until Mon. 1/31/12, I went to parts store, got 6
quarts Mobile 1, new filter, sending unit, and was
on my way to my bros garage to change all that. I
made it half way there and it appears I may have
spun a bearing and threw a rod, as it started
knocking really bad. I shut it down right away
and had my bro tow me in. It appears the oil
sending unit was working and I had lost oil
pressure when the gauge was reading zero. Is my
motor shot or can it be fixed. I don't have the
money for a new motor, nor would it be worth it to
buy one since the truck is only worth so much.
Please help. I need good advice. It appears I
bought a lemon as I have only driven it only about
50 miles. Thanks for your help.

Message: You did not buy a lemon. you bought a truck that did not have regular maintneance done to it. The oil pump pickup screen is probably clogged.

fair price but it was out of 4x4 MANUAL. Can I
easily replace the new motor w/MANUAL trans. and put
it in my truck and convert it for my AUTO trans? My
transmission is still good. Please help!!!

Message: Are the 2002 Dakota 4.7 and the 2000 Dakota 4.7 the
exact same motor and can I swap my 2000 4.7 with the
02? 16 tooth vs. 32 tooth? I hear that is the major
difference. Thanks for your help.

Message: That could be two things. A weak battery, have it load tested. Or a dirty IAC valve. The IAC is located on the throttle. It acts like a choke system and regulates the amount of air when at idle. Check for codes first just in case.

Message: I swapped out the engine in my 2003 dodge dakota,
I purchased the engine used online,it is suppose
to be a low mileage engine and was given a 6
month warranty, after installing it, it will not
start, it tries but It acts like the timing is
off,, I swapped over the cam and crank sensors
from the old engine and it still acts the same
way,, it tries to start but then stops abruptly
and attempts to run backward as if the timing is
too far advanced, It is suppose to be out of the
same year vehicle but I have no way of knowing,, I
do know that the vacuum sensor, the throttle
sensors, oil pressure sensor all were different
and would not plug into the wiring harness and I
had to take them off the other engine. Does
anyone know if by chance dodge would have have
done something stupid and changed the location of
the timing pickup point on the crank and or cam
between years? I cant beleive they would do
something like that, but you never know, The only
thing I have not swapped out from the old engine
is the fan switch, the injectors and the spark
coils.
What am I
over looking? any Ideas?
