Subject: vibration at 25 mph IP: Logged
Message: i have a 97 5.2 with 149,000 miles. i am having a vibration that can be felt through out the intire truck. The vibration starts at about 25 mph and stops at about 35 mph. It also doesn't matter what gear the truck is in the vibration happens anyway. it also happens during acceleration and deceleration. Does anyone have anyidea what could be wrong. Any ideas will be helpful. thanks

Message: Could be almost anything in the suspension. Something as simple as a missing wheel weight, to as expensive as a bent axle or brake rotor. You'll just have to start digging.

Message: Gotta agree with ehofer. Take the driveshaft out and take it to a good driveline place near you. Should be easy to find one. Have them put new u-joints in it and check the balance. Shouldnt cost more than 60 or 70 bucks. Bet your problem is cured.

Message: True, true - Its sounds like U-joints. If your whole trucks shakes I would make it a priority to look into - When mine started doing that it was around 45mph - One day it realy got bad (whole truck shaking) and when i got home to look at it the thing was barely hanging in there. Could be a potential dangerous situation....

Message: MY 2002 QUAD CAB 4.7 AUTO DOES A SIMULAR THING.
BUT MINE MAKES A BAD GRINDING NOISE AT ALL SPEEDS. COULD THAT BE THE U-JOINTS? THEY DON'T HAVE ANY PLAY IN THEM, BUT THE REAR U-JOINT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS BEEN HOT. DISCOLORED.. THANKS

Message: yep could be, at least you best hope so, you don want it to be a diff. I would suggestjust taking it off and pull the caps off and or see how it feels, just be smooth operation. I think the ends are just cap straps so you would need anything more than wrench to check them. If they were bad you would need a press to change them. Most importantly, dont hammer on them, its tempting at times but dont do it.

Message: My Dakota vibrated at 45mph. It was u-joint by
transmission. Removing it was hard. Had to use
10w30, torch, hammer and socket to get it out.
God bless
