Subject: Dakota v8 4.7L Club Cab Performace Q's

Message:
Hi all.
Just bought tonight an `05 Dakota v8 4.7l.
I'm coming from a `95 Ranger 4.0l v6. with it i used JBA header, superchip chip, K&N intake, flowmaster 2-1/4" single in dual out muffler and was forced to remove spare tire to have exhaust tips coming out the rear ect, and was wanting more performace out of my new truck already and looking for suggestions please.

Questions:
Headers has anyone found a pair for this 05 truck? searched google, checked jegs of course and others but can only find parts for trucks up to `03-`04, no 2005 4.7l v8 models your help will be appreciated with any input.

Flowmaster muffler, i havent gone out to measure pipe size yet anyone using flowmaster single in dual out muffle did u just run both side by side or any suggestions please.

Suspension: My Dakota is the basic model truck, crank windows but it does have Auto trans and the tilt wheel option, but other then that its it basic one, love to white dash (wink) nice move on dodge part.

I'm going to spend the next hr or 2 checking the site out, looks very much worth signing up for.

We'll see what happens to these questions.

Thank you for your help and just from the drive home i can already tell i'm going to have lots of fun with my new truck.

Cams will be your best power adder at this point. Very easy swap on a 4.7.

I looked at cams and couldnt find any for the 2005, do you know of a link or website that sells them?

Its a new day today Sunday, i'm going out later to check exhaust size to order my Flowmaster 40 Muffler. Woot excited. I was checking the rest of the site lastnight and unless theres more topics under members then not to many people have the 2005 4.7l v8.

What will probably end up happening to me is that i'll have to wait a yr or 2 until the products are out on the after market for it. : (

But,... if someone knows a really good site i'd be more then happy to check it out.

Thank you again.

Oh i got the truck lastnight. I couldnt beleive how long it took. My wife and i went in around 2:30pm and got out at 7:50pm YIKES...

I was checking the link http://www.krcperformance.com/newcontent/cams.html

And as far as i can tell they are for the HO 4.7l v8. I saw the picture of the engine there, I'll have to check to see which mine has. Lastnight when i bought it i didnt know there were 2 different 4.7l engines.

To tell ya the truth i wasnt even doing research on the Dodge until lastnight after i bought the truck. Thk you for the link. i'll check back again when i finish my coffee and check the truck over.

Thank you.

It takes a while for listings to catch up to new model years, that doesn't mean the cams won't fit your truck. Many of us here have swapped the jeep HO cams into our 4.7s; probably the best torque increase for the money. The HO cams are also available from the dealership. KRC offers a couple of hotter cam regrinds for the 4.7 too.
Don't expect to gain much from your exhaust mods unless you replace the restrivtive y-pipe.

Q. Y-Pipe is the pipe connecting to the Cat right?
I just wanted the FM muffler for the sound not effect. I dont think i'd gain much of anything besides sound going that route.

Thank you.

Yes, y-pipe is section in front of cat if you only have 1 cat (some have a pre-cat on each side by the engine). You don't need an HO motor to run the HO cams. Member section contains posts by members, less smart azz comments.

If your exhaust is like my '04's, you will have two catalytic converters bolted by flanges to the exhaust manifolds. The outputs of these two cats are brought together on the passenger side, and this dumps into the muffler.
The cats are an integral part of the y-pipe, and each cat has two O2 sensors. It's all welded together, so if you want to change out the restrictive part (where they join), you'll be cuttin' and weldin'.
Maybe some folks who have done this can chime in here and give us some pointers.
Good luck.

Well,... I made my purchase today.
I bought the Delta Flow Flowmaster 40 2.5" Single in center and Dual 2.25" outs SKU# 9425422. I purchased it from Delray Beach House of Mufflers 1-800-276-6399 for $54.00 (Great Price) Overnight shipping was like $9 total $63.00. LOL thats still $20.00 cheaper then the ones they wanted here in my town. I've decided to have the exhaust run out the back, should look nice and sound good to.

Oh and as far as installing it i'm having a local muffler shop install it for me, they said for pipe and tips about $130.00 and i can run it anyway i want.

If anyone is interested in pictures let me know.

Anyone need a Muffler / Like New with 55 miles on it from a `05 Dakota v8 4.7l? Maybe i'll put it up on eBay and sell it.

Woot,.. very excited.

Thk you for all your help guys, Great Board.

cool to hear about your exhoust! you can open the sound up on your exhoust with an air intake or a drop in k&n filter. if you want a intake all you have to do is order a 2003 intake drill a 5/8" hole in it get a rubber gromet and push the air temp sensor in the hole. you will see you air temp sensor in the air box that is connected to the throttle body it unscrews counter clockwise.

Hmm,.. so if i drill a 5/8" hole in it and get a rubber gromet for the temp sensor it'll work eh?

I just checked the prices on K&N Cool air intakes. the prices seem to be around $260-$270 range, I think i'll wait a few more months to see if one comes out for the `05's.

I know K&N is good but i think i had a defective one,...

I had the K&N cool air intake on my `05 Ranger and loved the sound of rushing air being sucked in to engine, but anyway when it got hot down here in Florida in the summer time days it would make a LOUD High Pitched whistle noise, If i was sitting at a red light or something and if it was Hot outside the whistle would start up, and as soon as i'd start to move the sound would go away. That always concerned me plus the people in the cars next to me with their windows down would look at me like i had something wrong with my truck or something...

This was several years ago. Back then i did ask the dude at the performance shop where i bought it about it and He told me that some of them (K&N) do that when it gets hot.

Has anyone ever heard of this?
The problem i had before just might be the reason i'm holding back from getting another one.

Thank you again for your help and suggestions.
