Subject: real easy tranny question IP: Logged
Message: i have a 93 dak club cab w/ 5.2 auto. i wanted to change the tranny filter so i put it up on ramps and took all the bolts out of the pan and tryed to pull the pan off but it would not slide out from inbetween the y pipe and the tranny. after putting all the bolts back in i thought of what i might of done wrong i didnt pull the dipstick. was this the prob or do you have to drop the y pipe.

Message: yes it's easier when you pull the dipstick but the pan doesnt drop straight down. on my 92 the pan gets hung up on the flange of the crossmember and the y pipe on the opposite side. drop the pan onto the flange and slide toward the drivers side after it clears the y pipe it comes right out, it goes back in, really easy, while you have the pan off adjust your low, reverse band youll need a torque wrench and i think it was a 5/16 socket

Message: On my 93 i never could get the pan off without loosening the Y pipe bolts and dropping the Y pipe about 1/4-1/2 inch. Seems they made some closer than others.
