You have virtually the same truck as I.

Here are some items I've done to improve fuel economy :
- installed Autolite 3923 spark plugs
- 180 t-stat
- check your tires often; I check mine once week or once every two weeks.
- drive efficiently, avoid doubling back. Make the most out of every trip.
- if you destination is close by, walk to it rather than drive.
- drive conservatively.
- if you have 4x4, use it frugally.
- M1 2bbl manifold
- new O2 sensor

A Black Magic 150 electric fan and a set of JBA headers combined improve my 5.2's MPG 3-4,with the fan doing most of the improvement , 2mpg.

What kind of milage do you get now?

I have added 65 rwhp to mine and the mileage is the same for practical drivivg as it was stock.

Right foot makes a difference...
