Subject: Stock and HO cam dyno graphs?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey hey...

Been reading around and am looking to buy KRC's HO cams for my '02 4.7 beginning of next month (damn credit limit sucks or I'd order them now). What I'm interested in is overlayed graphs of a 4.7 dyno with stock and HO cams only. I want to see where it peaks, how the curves compare and where it drops off drastically.

Also, I've been looking, but haven't found, exactly what special tools I'm gonna need. It seems the KRC will include the wedges, but will I need the spanner wrench (rent from AutoZone?) or can this be avoided by vice-gripping on the cam body?

I've read through GraphiteDak's website a few times and I've also read that KRC's directions are thorough, is this correct?

Thanks a ton,

18-yearold who wants more power :)

make a spannar wrench out of something or rent one. i wouldnt grab the cam with vice grips to tighten the cam sprocket bolt you could stress the pin. this is really easy with 2 peaple one person hold the cam in place and the other hold the sprocket and torqe the bolt.good luck!!

FLDak posted his HO cam dyno results before, with 15HP and 25TQ the average gains. The "sweet spot" was at 3400 rpm, with 25HP and 45TQ peak over stock.

Ok, I'll look at renting a spanner from AutoZone...

Lube for cam assy, is a liberal application to all moving parts with fresh Mobil1 sufficent? That is what it will be getting anyway...

01, are these the KRC 200/factory HO cams? Those numbers are a good bit higher than KRC's statement, not that I'm complaining! :)

Those were the factory HO cams. FLDak had air intake, TB and exhaust mods which could affect/ compound the cams' performance positively. The best I remember, the HO cams' numbers came on top of his previous modded, stock cam dyno. The post title was something like "4.7 dyno results".

Instead of the spanner, you can use a breaker bar with an 18mm (I think it was 18...) socket on the crank pulley bolt. This will hold the cams sufficiently to break the cam bolts loose.

Don't forget to find/make a cam chain wedge, and zip tying the chain to the cam sprocket makes it a bit easier too.

Yup, a good smearing of M1 is sufficient on assembly.

Plow frame kept me from being able to use a wrench on the crank pulley, so I just held the cam with a set of water pump pliers while someone else torqued the cam gears. There's a lot of ways to get around needing the special tools, just be careful not to stress those cam gear locating pins.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way
