Does anyone know of the new magnum Crate motor that is a direct replacement motor. Uses the same stock equipment and air conditioning. I cant seem to get any specs for it (horsepower - torque). I was wanting to know if the cam in it is "lumpy" at idle.... can ya hook up a supercharger to it............. yadda yadda yadda

Message: Cam isn't lumpy, but it is better than the stocker. In fact it's the Magnum RT cam...not to be confused with the cam in the Dakota RT (which is the same as all other 360 Magnums). This has a little info, and does state it's considered a direct replacement. Also, it's already been proven that the Magnum RT cam is blower-friendly.

Message: The crate motor from mopar is probably pushing about 270 to 280 horse. The compression ratio is about 9:1 or so. The cam is blower friendly I would say judging by the lobe separation. Not lopey though. And also I wouldn't get too crazy with the boost as this motor has cast pistons.

Message: It depends on the overlap, and the engine size, but on a smallblock 110 degrees will begin to affect idle quality (a 360 will tend to be pretty smooth, but a 318 will be more obvious). 108 will definitely shake it up. 106? It'll lope like a tractor pull engine. Greater overlap will roughen up the idle. The smaller an engine is with a given cam, the rougher it'll get. Tighter lobe sep. tends to narrow the power band, while cams with 112-114 give up some power through the low and midrange, but will tend to rev higher, and pass the other cams at the top of the rpm range...all other cam specs being equal. Again, it's all relative to other cam specs, as well as the engine displacement, even the exhaust being used.

Message: O.K. - theres more to this than I thought - sure appreciate all the info - I have since found a couple web sites such as http://www.krcperformance.com/newcontent/cams.html
soooo much to learn. To bad there isnt a magical place where you can test and tune a motor before ya but it.
